Mad Science
Summer Camps at Experiment PDX

New to Southeast Portland! Mad Science is partnering with Experiment to offer a variety of STEM summer camps. From chemistry and engineering to archaeology and inventions, find the perfect science experience for all young investigators.

We'll have lunch care from 12-1pm for kids in double camps (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) and in full-day camps!

Other Camps:

Decipher the world all around us in this exciting camp designed for your young scientist! Campers will develop their earth awareness and explore the world as junior naturalists before heading for space as junior astronauts. Campers will also explore just why their big toe is important and how to find their center of gravity as they investigate the science of space!

Join the Mad Scientist in a fun-filled exploration of how science keeps our world moving. Take a close-up look at a wide array of scientific disciplines including chemistry, biology, engineering, physics, and optics. Take apart owl pellets to see what they cannot digest! Join a team of camper engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids. Make your own sidewalk chalk, crystal garden, and a chromatography-dyed T-shirt!

Eureka! Creativity and Innovation abound! Junior inventors go on a journey of discovery from the real-life inventions of DaVinci, Edison, and the Wright Brothers to Isaac Asimov's dreams of future inventions. Each day campers are given a series of challenges that must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors, and the most important thing of all - their minds. With a little bit of ingenuity, they'll construct catapults and forts, fabricate innovative flying contraptions, design their own gizmo prototypes and will even assemble a glowing sword!

Learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long-lost cities! Discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they use in everyday life! Study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history. What's more, each class includes a make-and-take-home project like a fossil replication, an amber time capsule, and coins from around the world.
