Emi Gilbert “Piano Bar” Solo Performance

Emi becomes your music curator by night, and sings seasonal jazz songs, French chanson, an old Japanese poem, and more.  Come celebrate spring with her!

admission: $5-$10 sliding scale, pay either $5 or $10, depending on what you can afford.

Emi Gilbert began studying classical piano at the age of three. She won first prize at the youth classical piano competition in Japan when she was 12 years old. She studied the piano works of Ravel, Debussy and Rachmaninoff in her teenage years.

Emi also became fascinated by the power of the human voice, and started training her voice by studying choral music. She performed works by composers such as Palestrina and Monteverdi, along with opera arias as solo performances. While she was majoring in linguistics at her university in Tokyo, she became interested in jazz music and started performing at venues in Tokyo.

After relocating to Los Angeles, Emi participated in many of her husband Paul Gilbert’s recording projects, and toured around the world in his band. The venues include The Iridium in New York, Hammersmith Apollo in London, and Bataclan in Paris.

In 2019, Emi started her own live jazz project which combines all of the elements of her musical journey so far. She sings, and plays the piano.
